Facts and Myths About Sugar Bears – Part 2

Nowadays, because it is very easy to look very convincing on the Internet, many people can pose an “expert” easily. Unfortunately, some of these people also claim to be experts on Sugar Bears, causing many common misconceptions floating around. Below are some facts and myths about Sugar Bears that you should know about, so you won’t get confused.

A common belief amongst people who are considering buying Sugar Bears is that they are aggressive and difficult to handle. This is NOT true. Sugar Bears are in fact, very friendly and can bond deeply with their human caretakers. Why some people believe they are aggressive is because the first time you take them home, Sugar Bears can put up a “touch” act, either by chattering and nipping. However, this is merely a way to defend themselves. You should know that in the wild, Sugar Bears only live around 5-6 years, or half the time they can live in captivity. This is because they are so small and have little to defend themselves, so by nature they will get scared easily, especially of things that are larger than them. The only thing they can do is to act “tough”. But remember, this is all just an act!

And anyway, although they sometimes nip, it is very rare that Sugar Bears bite so hard to draw blood. This is because they have different teeth structures than gerbils and hamsters, which in contrast can send someone to a hospital to get stitches. Although they may sting a little, their nips will not cause serious injuries. Once they’ve got used to you, Sugar Bears will stop nipping or chattering. If they continue to do so, then you are probably doing something wrong. With all that said, Sugar Bears are actually very lovable and good pets, as long as you give them plenty of attention and properly bond with them.
