Feeding Your Sugar Bear Correctly

Most of the food issues surrounding digestive troubles with Sugar Bears occur in the "infant" stage. If your Sugar Bear is just a baby, he does not have the enzymes in his stomach to digest a wide variety of foods.

It is important to stick to the tried and true feeding methods of baby Sugar Bear raising: a fresh Gatorade/water mixture available at all times and a piece of apple as well.

Baby Sugar Bears are adorable and loving. They also love all kinds of food, and it is tempting to give your Sugar Bear "snacks." As an adult Sugar Bear, it is fine to give them an occasional "snack" as long as you do not make those types of foods the majority of their diet – they should be just fine with an occasional goodie. Your Sugar Bear will love it and you’ll have fun watching them eat it.

As babies, however, even an occasional snack of tempting goodies can be disastrous. Digestive upset can bring on Giardia bloom, which can kill your baby Sugar Bear quickly. If you see any signs of digestive problems in your Sugar Bear such as: trouble walking or wobbling, diarrhea that lasts more than 1or 2 days, sticky stools, or not eating their apple, it is important to take the necessary action to solve the problem quickly.

Mix yogurt, which your Sugar Bear will normally love, with a little Kaopectate, and some Glide-a-mins™ will help solve digestive problems quickly. Diarrhea can kill your Sugar Bear in less than 2 days, so it is very important to get it under control.

Most of all, fight the urge to give your Sugar Bear any foods that it can’t handle at any age and especially at a very young age. Treat them responsibly as a good parent would their child and your Sugar Bear will be a healthy loving pet for years.
